We are proud to share our early endorsements for candidates across the state for the 2015 elections. There is no question that this is a record breaking year for women on the Washington ballot!

In the past, Washington state has led the nation in the percentage of elected women to the state legislature, with women occupying 40 percent of legislative seats, but since 2004, we’ve slipped to fifth place. However, there is hope. 2015 looks to be a new year for women who are choosing to run for elected office.
For the first time in our more than 40 year history, we have suspended our rules to support multiple candidates in city and county council races. The caliber and determination of these women running for office is undeniable. We are announcing our early endorsement of 22 candidates in the King County races, and they are truly an inspiring group of women.
Women are 50 percent of the U.S. population, yet they make up only 19 percent of Congress. In Washington, women make up less than one third of the state legislature. The women we are endorsing have come to represent their communities, and to speak with voices that have been underrepresented in our government. They are women of color, young women, and women of a variety of backgrounds who are ready for their government to look more like them.
It’s been a dry winter in Washington, but now we are ready to see women flood the ballot in 2015! Stay tuned as we will be announcing new endorsements over the next several months.
