National Women's Political Caucus of Washington

NWPC-WA Statement About the November 2024 Election

The National Women’s Political Caucus of Washington recruits, trains, supports, and elects women and non-binary candidates to office across the state – and has been doing so since 1971. Our objectives are long-term, and the victories we seek are not won or lost in one election. Over the decades we have supported candidates who have won, and candidates who have lost. We have celebrated historic firsts, glass ceilings broken, and doors opened for the women, girls, and people who come next.

We celebrate Vice President Kamala Harris on her historic nomination and campaign, and for bringing joy, a focus on reproductive justice and care, and deep empathy to this election. November 5, 2024 was not our night to reach that highest seat, but we know that day will come—and we will do everything we can to make it happen, and happen soon.

Our country and our Caucus are both hurting right now, but we are also strong and focused. We are not backing down. Donald Trump is a convicted felon and rapist, whose misogynistic, racist, and inflammatory rhetoric aims to divide and sow fear. We won't let that happen.

We may not have won the White House, but we have not lost sight of our goals.

In Washington, we achieved major victories. We elected Emily Randall (CD-6) to Congress, a reproductive justice champion and the first openly queer Latina in Congress. U.S. Representative Marie Glusenkamp Perez won a tight and critical re-election, and we congratulate U.S. Senator Maria Cantwell, U.S. Representatives Pramila Jayapal, Marilyn Strickland, Kim Schier, and Suzan DelBene on their re-elections. We elected Patty Kuderer State Insurance Commissioner, and across the state, with final ballots almost finalized, 75% of our endorsed candidates are winning their races, including 73% of candidates of color. These reproductive justice champions will serve in the state legislature, the judicial branch, county commissions, and city councils across Washington.

We are committed to working hard, and working collaboratively to support the women and non-binary leaders we need, now and in the future. This election was, in many ways, a step forward for Washington, a huge step back for our country, and a time for us to recommit to our goals.
